While watching part of the movie Hacksaw Ridge, I was again inspired by how Desmond Doss risked his life for so many wounded soldiers.
His iconic prayer still rings in my mind, “Lord, help me get one more.”
He couldn’t stand the thought of leaving anyone behind when he could at least try to save them.
Shortly afterward I logged in to Facebook and was shocked to discover that someone else I knew had died, way too young and way too soon, another casualty of mental illness and suicide.
I wondered if there was something I could have done, to help prevent their death, to ease their pain, to give hope.
Maybe I was taking on more guilt than I should?
I wasn’t directly involved in that person’s life, nor did I have any idea that they were struggling.
But what about others? Is there anyone around me I could help save?
“Lord, help me get one more.”
We are all on the battlefield.
We are either defending, healing, or causing pain.
What if we pray what Private Doss prayed?
What can we do to “get one more”?
How can we protect, encourage, and help save those around us?
What if you reached out to someone you notice that is lonely, shy or sad?
Start a conversation about what you can do in your little corner of the world and act on it.
